Small Office Network

Enhancing the Network Infrastructure for a Devonport small office.

Introduction

At Raptor Communications, we recently had the pleasure of assisting a local office in Devonport with upgrading their network infrastructure. The business was facing connectivity issues within their building, particularly with their Wi-Fi setup. Our goal was to create a streamlined, efficient network that would seamlessly support their operations.

Challenges

The initial assessment revealed several challenges:

• Wi-Fi Troubles: All devices, including tablets and PCs, were relying on Wi-Fi, leading to performance issues.
• Inconvenient NBN Location: The National Broadband Network (NBN) connection entered the building at an inconvenient spot.

Solutions Implemented

To address these challenges, we took the following steps:

1. Cabling and Network Rack Installation:

• We ran new cables from the NBN entry point to a newly installed network rack.
• The network rack housed essential equipment, including a DrayTek Router.

1. Ubiquiti Dream Machine Special Edition (UDM SE):

• The DrayTek Router connected to the UDM SE, which managed the entire network.
• The UDM SE powered two strategically placed Unifi U7 Pro Access Points (APs) throughout the building.

1. Unifi U7 Pro Access Points:

• We selected the U7 Pro APs for their cost-effectiveness, robust performance, and sleek design.
• These APs ensured optimal Wi-Fi coverage for everyone working in the office.

1. Cabling Neatness and Redundancy:

• A patch panel organized all cabling within the network rack, maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
• We added an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) to keep equipment running during brief power outages.

1. Integration with Hik Vision CCTV:

• Leveraging the existing Hik Vision CCTV system, we seamlessly integrated it into the upgraded network.

The result was a modern, efficient network that met the office's needs:
